William Lloyd Garrison

William Lloyd Garrison made the transition from earthly life to the church triumphant and eternal life with the Lord Jesus Christ on Wednesday, October 17, 2018. He was born on August 18, 1930 in Hartford, CT to Lloyd William Garrison and Marjorie Foster Garrison. His life was blessed with loving and caring family and friends.

Immediate family remaining are his beloved wife, Barbara Hill Garrison, with whom he shared 64 years; sons, William Lloyd Garrison, Jr. and his wife, Mary Kathleen of Chapel Hill, TN and Scott Earl of Hendersonville; daughter, Carole Ann of Hampton, VA; grandchildren, Matthew William, Laura Kathleen and William Lloyd, Jr. of Chapel Hill, TN.

He attended St. Petersburg Florida Junior College and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict in the 40th Infantry Military Police Division and was awarded the Korean Service Metal with Bronze Service Star, as well as the United Nations Service Metal. William was both an Elder and Deacon with Trinity Presbyterian Church and was a founding member and Board Chairman of Trinity Presbyterian Playgroup Hendersonville. He was President of Blue Ridge Apple Growers Association from 1986-1988 and served on the Governor’s Farmer and Farmworker Council. William also served on the National Advisory Council on Migrant Health and National Association of Community Health Centers for Migrant Health. He served as a Board Chairman of Henderson County Child Development Center for 6 years as well as being a national board member of East Coast Migrant Head Start in Arlington, VA. William was a charter founding member and served on the Board of Directors Housing Assistance Corporation (HAC) Hendersonville. He was awarded the American Red Cross Certificate of Merit for his rescue of a drowning victim, a father of small boys who had fallen through ice on a farm pond in Jan. 1964. He was presented the North Carolina Governor’s Award for heroism and meritorious service in life saving as well as the Carnegie Medal of Honor for meritorious and heroism in life saving.

A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Trinity Presbyterian Church with Dr. Mark Stanley officiating.
