William Drown

January 29, 1926 - July 9, 2010

William A. Drown, 84, of Hendersonville, passed away Friday, July 9, 2010 at Elizabeth House. A native of Newark, OH, he lived in Henderson County since 1980. He was the son of the late Anna Pearce, and the husband of the late Elizabeth ìBettyî Drown who died in December, 1993. He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jamie Drown. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of WWII, serving proudly in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. He was a tool and dye design engineer with Rockwell International, and was the second employee hired at the Rockwell Fletcher location. He was a member and elder at First Presbyterian Church, and was active in church functions, serving as a Boy Scout leader and teaching Sunday school.

Survivors include a son, William J. Drown and his wife Gloria of Candler; a daughter, Linda Stephens and her husband Dale of Hendersonville; five grandchildren, April, Chad, Matthew, Jeremy, Zachary; ten great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be at 11:00 am Monday in the chapel of Forest Lawn Mortuary. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 am prior to the service in the chapel. Entombment will be private. Military honors will be presented by Hubert M. Smith American Legion Post # 77, Hedrick-Rhodes VFW Post # 5206, and DAV Chapter 14.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pardee Pavilion Adult Day Health Services, 114 College Drive, Flat Rock, NC 28731 or Four Seasons Compassion for Life, 571 S. Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
