Wesley Woodman

April 10, 1919 - November 28, 2009

Wesley Greene Woodman, 90 of Hendersonville, passed away Saturday November 28, 2009 at the Brian Center after an extended illness.

He was born in Cortland, NY, but the family moved to New Jersey where he lived until he retired to Hendersonville in 1986. He was the son of Lee Wilcox and Katharine Espensen Woodman and twin brother of William E. Woodman, all of whom preceded him in death.

He graduated from Columbia High School in Maplewood, NJ and attended the University of Virginia and graduated from R.I.T in Rochester, NY. He worked for Taylor Instrument Co until he enlisted in the US Navy. He served for three years in the Pacific area on the destroyer escort U.S.S. General Gendreau as a Machinist Mate 3rd Class. When the war ended, he went home to Maplewood, NJ. He worked for RCA in Harrison for over twenty five years until the company shut down.

He was very active in the Masons (AFIM) and the Royal Arch Masons in Maplewood and joined the American Legion in Hendersonville. He was a volunteer driver for FISH for fifteen years and was a member of Pinecrest Presbyterian Church where he joined the handbell choir. He enjoyed traveling by trailer or motor home all over the country and also enjoyed square dancing for thirty years.

He is survived by his loving wife of fifty eight years, Helen Denny Woodman; a son Wesley G. Woodman, Jr. And his wife Linda of Flemington, NJ; a daughter, Nanci W. Perlstein and her husband Robert of Asheville; four grandchildren, Shannon Woodman, Michael Woodman, Kira P. Bouchonnet and Jennifer Perlstein; two stepsons; Steven Vecchio and Andrew Seyfarth; a sister, Mary Louise Barnes and her husband Samuel of Millington NJ; five nieces and six nephews.

A memorial service will held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, December 11, 2009, at Pinecrest Presbyterian Church.
