Richard “Dick” Frederick Prior, 87, of Hendersonville passed away Sunday, August 5, 2018 at Charles George VA Medical Center. A native of Tampa, FL, Dick lived in Henderson County since 2012. He was a son of the late Lee and Jeannette Phillips Prior and was also preceded by several of his twelve brothers and sisters. He was a Korean War Marine Corps veteran. Dick was active in supporting world-wide missions and humanitarian projects. He was an active scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts for many years. Dick was a barber-stylist and owned a health food manufacturing company in California. He was a member of the Asheville North Seventh-day Adventist Church, and was an avid fisherman and hunter. In his younger years, he enjoyed working on his ranch in California. Dick loved his family.
Survivors include his loving wife of sixty-seven years, Emma Prior; son, Michael Patrick Prior of Greensboro; daughter, Geraldine Prior Tucker of Hendersonville; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Amann (Jeremy) of Biltmore Lake, Ash Tucker (Jessica) of Sarasota, FL, Troy Prior (Lia) of Jonesboro, AR, Kimberly Nearns (Ron) of Aldie, VA; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters; three brothers; and a number of nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be at 2:00 pm Monday. August 13, 2018 in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery Chapel in Black Mountain. Chaplain Art Slagle and Dr. David Graham will officiate. Military honors will be rendered by members of the Marine Corps Honor Guard.
