R. Cecil Camp

December 17, 1915 - June 10, 2011

R. Cecil Camp, 95 of Hendersonville, went home to be with the Lord early Friday morning, June 10, 2011 at his residence. He was a lifelong resident of Hendersonville. He was born December 17, 1915 a son of the late Joseph Pinkney ìPinkî Camp and Nina Painter Camp. In 1945, at the age of 29, with a wife and four children, he volunteered to serve in the US Marines to fight for his country.

As he was finishing his basic training in Parris Island, the war ended and he was discharged to return home to his family. A few years later, in 1952, he became a Christian and many years of gospel singing and serving the Lord Jesus Christ followed. His children and grandchildren are carrying on his gospel music service to the Lord and will continue until Jesus comes. Many of his descendants are gospel singers, ministers, pastors and missionaries.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Virginia Thompson Camp; two brothers Albert F. (Bub), Abner F. (Fred);three sisters Ozzie Lee Raines, Isabell Prince, and Cyrena (infant sister); daughter-in-law, Kathleen Wilson Camp; a son-in-law L.G. ìPeteî Lunsford; two grandsons, Tommy Miller and Rev. Jason Camp.

He is survived by his four children, C.R. (Reg) Camp, Glenn Camp (Nora), Freida Creasman (Bill) and Dorothy Lunsford; five grandchildren Deborah Creasman Cannada (Norman), Melodi Candler Marvin (Linden), Stoney Lunsford, Darric Camp (Beth) and Misty Creasman Carter (R.J.) and many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and many many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, June 12 at Gethsemane Baptist Church. Revs. Harold McKinnish and Norman Cannada and Mr. Darric Camp will officiate, with singing by family members. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Darric Camp, Stoney Lunsford, Norman Cannada, R.J. Carter, Linden Marvin and Phillip Miller.

The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Saturday at Forest Lawn Funeral Home and at other times will be at his home.
