August 8, 1938 - December 31, 2017

Paul Edward Jones, 79, of Hendersonville passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, December 31, 2017. He was a son of the late Herbert Hampton and Nellie Lou Nix Jones. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, John William Jones, Sr. and Earl Wayne Jones and his sweet angel, great-granddaughter, Skylar Elise Jones.

Paul owned and drove trucks for many years prior to owning Paul Jones Grading. He was proud to take part in the Make a Wish Foundation by helping fulfill a little boy’s dream of operating heavy machinery. They spent hours on his backhoe in a field near his home grinning ear to ear.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Edith Dotson Jones, daughter, Debbie Walker (John) of Flat Rock; sons, Dennis Jones (Brenda) of Dana and John P. Jones of Hendersonville; six grandchildren, Heather Justus, Loretta Varnadore (Ricky), Jonathan Jones, Ricky Jones (Christina) and Dean Jones, Charles Bumgarner; five great-grandchildren, Haleigh Davis, Taylor Jones, Kylie and Spencer Varnadore, Megan Bumgarner; sister, Kirby Cook (Frank) of Hendersonville and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Friday, January 5, 2017 at Dana Baptist Church with the Rev. Dan Blackwell and Rev. Steven Blanton officiating. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 1pm.

Memorial may be made to Make-A-Wish Central and Western North Carolina 1131 Harding Place Charlotte, NC 28204 or to the charity of one’s choice.
