As Mel's former commanding officer in the Army Reserves, I have a special appreciation for him as a fine man, a good soldier, and a great friend. Mel and I shared many good meals and adventures together in Germany, and remained friends for the 38 years since we served together. Since Mel moved out of South Florida, we enjoyed seeing him at 403rd MID(S) Super Bowl parties. He will be sorely missed.
