Mary Donnell Hyder

May 23, 1926 - February 8, 2020

Mary Donnell Shipman Hyder, 93, formerly of East Flat Rock, went home to her Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at the Oaks-Brevard. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, James R. “Dink” Hyder; her father, Eugene Shipman and mother, Leona Blackwell Shipman; sister Billie Coleman; and brothers, James, Lonnie Ray, and Larry Shipman.

Donnell is survived by her daughter, Betty Jo Powell and husband Odell of Rosman; son, Michael Hyder and wife Deborah of Hendersonville; 7 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Gertha Shipman; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Donnell enjoyed spending her time crafting, painting, and writing poems, many of which were published. She was an active member of her church and taught for many years in the children’s Sunday School classes. The mountains were her beloved home, but Jekyll Island, GA was her happy place.

Donnell was a loving wife, mother, and “Hydow”. Her memory will live on through all of the lives she has impacted.

A funeral service will be at 2:00pm Wednesday, February 12, 2020 in the chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1-2:00pm.
