Mary Compton Owenby, 91, of Hendersonville was promoted to Heaven Thursday, October 22, 2015 at Spring Arbor Assisted Living. Born in Atlanta, GA., Mary was a lifelong resident of Henderson County. She was the daughter of the late Worth Compton and Sallie Phillips Compton, and the wife of the late William McKinley “Jr.” Owenby who died in 2007. Mary retired form First Union Bank. She was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church in Tuxedo where she sang in the choir and taught the adult Ladies Sunday School class for many years.
Survivors include two sons, William Gary Owenby and his wife Carol of Zirconia, Randy McKinley Owenby and his wife Dee Dee of Hendersonville; three grandchildren, Shane Owenby and his wife Victoria, Brooks Owenby and his wife Jessica, Carly Owenby; four great-grandchildren, Keller, Jessica Jade, Libby, and Garrett Owenby.
A graveside service will be at 1:00 pm Monday, October 26, 2015 at Shepherd Memorial Park. Rev. Sherrill Moore will officiate. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 pm Sunday at Shuler Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain View Baptist Church, P.O. Box 504, Zirconia, NC 28790.
