Mary Knevals Afflerbach, 75, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2013 at the Elizabeth House.

She was the daughter of the late Richard and Maria Hill Knevals. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Knevals and her sister, Joan Werkheiser.

Born and raised in Madison, NJ, she lived in Bound Brook and Toms River, NJ before moving to Flat Rock in 1993. She worked at CVS pharmacy in Toms River, NJ and Wal-Mart in Hendersonville, but her lifelong calling was that of a homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. Nothing on this earth was more precious to her than her family.

She loved traveling by RV to visit family and friends, spread throughout the country and thereby, experienced the wonders and beauty of this land. She shared this love by celebrating her 70th birthday at Grand Canyon with her husband, children and grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, the occasional glass of wine and chocolate. Family gatherings in the Mountains for Christmas were her most favorite occasion.

She is survived by her husband of 20 wonderful years, Donald Afflerbach of Flat Rock; her brothers, John Knevals and his wife, Janice of North Plainfield, NJ and Bruce Knevals and his wife, Cheryl of Kissimmee, FL; her sister, Jana Hutchinson and her husband, John of Barnegat, NJ; her children, John Morano of Bloomfield, NJ, Donna Gwisdala and her husband, Jerry of Cameron Park, CA, Virginia Morano of Lubec, ME, Darlene Durbin and her husband, Jim of Bricktown, NJ, Richard Morano and his wife, Donna of Sevierville, TN, Denise Chelednik of Phoenix, AZ, Christopher Morano and his wife, Jenna of Apopka, FL and Donnie Afflerbach of Toms River, NJ. She will be remembered by several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and the ladies of Wal-Mart.

Her love lives on in the hearts of her beloved grandchildren: Jessica, Josh, Jordan, Jake, Austin, Christopher, Allie, Matthew and Tess.

A private gathering will be held by Maryís family to honor her memory.
