Marvin Larson

February 6, 1922 - May 15, 2014

Marvin Kenneth Larson, 92, of Hendersonville and formerly of Northbrook and Wilmette, IL. passed away Thursday May 15, 2014 at The Laurels of Hendersonville.

He was a son of the late George and Lillian Larson. He was a graduate of the Illinois Institute of Technology and fulfilled his career as a Chemical Engineer. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Hendersonville and was devoted to the Terrific Kids program. In addition he belonged to the local chapter of the American Scandinavian Foundation. He mentored young athletes and was a math tutor. For over 40 years he volunteered his time with prison ministries in both Henderson County and Illinois and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Among his many honors, he received the Governorís Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service in North Carolina, in 1997.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie P. Larson who passed away in 1993 and a sister, Jean Damisch.

He is survived by two daughters, Cynthia L. Keillor and her husband Jim and Pamela Fourthman; two granddaughters, Nicole and Vallerie Cascadden ; a brother-in-law, Richard J. Damisch ; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be at 4:00 pm on Wednesday, May 21st at First United Methodist church. The Reverend Daniel G. Martin will officiate.
