Lavada Gibbs Ficker

April 29, 1927 - November 1, 2015

Lavada Gibbs Ficker, 88, of Hendersonville and Salisbury, NC passed away Sunday, November 1, 2015. She was born April 29, 1927 in Rutherford County, the daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Martha Othella Horton Gibbs.

Lavada was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church where she once served as organist/pianist. She loved to play and sing gospel music. Her infectious smile and personality were loved by all those she met.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Linda Anders Freeze (Freddie) of Salisbury, NC and Cheryl Anders Davis (Dennis) of Salley, SC; sister, Ruth Gibbs Stepp of Hendersonville; five grandchildren, Thurston (Stoney) Foster Sawtelle, Stephanie Foster Parker, Christopher Foster Sawtelle, Cameron Foster Sawtelle, and Alexander Dean Freeze; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her death were brothers, Arlee and Harold Gilbert, George Gibbs, and sister, Lorena Gibbs.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm at Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, November 5. Visitation with family will be 1 hour prior to the service in the chapel. The Reverends Danny Pridmore of Gethsemane Baptist Church and Gerry Steedley of Dayspring Community Church will officiate the service.

Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gethsemane Baptist Church, 1315 Old Spartanburg Road Hendersonville, 28792; or Dayspring Community Church, 490 Lentz Road China Grove, NC 28023.
