Laura E. Corn, 83 of Hendersonville, went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 29, 2011 at Hendersonville Health and Rehabilitation following a brief illness. Born in Greer, SC she had lived for most of her life in Henderson County. She was a daughter of the late James B. Evans and Rilla Miller Evans Scruggs and was the wife of the late Arnold Edward Corn who died in 1998. She was also preceded in death by a sister Rebecca Hyder; a brother Kenneth Evans; and a grandson Barrett Evan Banks.
She was a graduate of Flat Rock High School where she served as class president for two years. In her early years, she operated Lauraís Lambs, a home childcare and then spent over 40 years at First Baptist Church Weekday Early Education (WEE School). She cared for many children throughout the years, and truly loved all of her ìlittle lambsî. She also worked for the City of Hendersonville, and was known as the ìPutt Putt Ladyî at Laura E. Corn Mini Golf.
A member of First Baptist Church, she was active in the church nursery. She
was inducted into the Hendersonville High School Hall of Fame in 2005 and was affectionately known as ìMama Bearcatî.
Surviving are her three children, Gail Corn Rhodes of Hendersonville, Rev. Kenny Corn and wife Ginger of East Flat Rock, and Becky Corn Banks of Hendersonville; six grandchildren Dena Rhodes, Kyle Rhodes and wife Kelley, Tyler and Dawson Corn, and Gary and Cody Banks; great-granddaughter Kailyn Rhodes; great-grandson Cooper Rhodes; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held at 3:00pm on Wednesday at First Baptist Church Hendersonville. Revs. Kenny Corn and Wally Shamburger will officiate. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service in the church.
