Jean Whiteside Williams, 89, a lifelong resident of Henderson County, died Monday, January 7, 2019 at Blue Ridge Health and Rehabilitation after a long illness. Jean was born Thursday, May 30, 1929 in the Mills River Community to Robert Clinton Whiteside and Hilda Brown Cathey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert W. Whiteside, and her sister, Margaret Whiteside Baldwin.

Jean was a high school basketball player for Mills River High School. She and Clyde enjoyed traveling and camping in their travel trailers and completed a goal of visiting all 48 of the contiguous states. She also made many friends while wintering in Florida for 24 years.

She worked at a variety of jobs while raising her family including sewing for Ruth Originals, driving a county school bus, and serving as a librarian at Hillandale Elementary School before retiring from the offices of Drs. Cosgrove and Sellers.
Jean is survived by her husband of 71 years, Clyde Williams; her son, Donald Williams (Gail); her daughters, Kay Williams and Donna Wilson; her sister, Estelle Whiteside of Mills River; and six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m.  Friday, January 11, 2019 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday in the Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, 538 Tracy Grove Road.
