James Russell Taylor, 79, of Hendersonville died Thursday, May 1, 2014 at the Elizabeth House after a lengthy illness.
Jim was born in Fayetteville, NC, attended Linden High School, after which he joined the US Air Force. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Russell Taylor and Effie McLeod Taylor; and a son, Michael Turner.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Simpson Taylor; a son, Ralph Turner and his wife Connie; a daughter, Julie Finney all of Hendersonville; a daughter-in-law, Marie Turner of Linwood, NC; two sisters, Chris Rankin and Ann McDuffie both of Fayetteville; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Prior to his illness, Jim did volunteer work at the Edneyville Grange, Bullington Gardens, and the NC Extension Agency.
Jim was deeply devoted to his family and friends, always looking for a way to serve others. He was a gentle and kind man with a strong faith in his Savior Jesus Christ. We will all miss him.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 2005 Brevard Road, Hendersonville, NC.
