Henry Dewitt Camp

July 28, 1941 - November 12, 2021

Henry Dewitt Camp left for his heavenly home on November 12, 2021. He was born on July 28, 1941, to Harry William & Myrtle Fisher Camp in Hendersonville NC. He was a die caster at General Electric and retired in 1998. He was a tremendous storyteller, he’d tell us all about his childhood and relatives, family history, he came from two of the finest families in Henderson County, the Camp’s & the Fisher’s. He had a heart of gold, and never met a stranger. He was the hardest working man we’ve ever known. He was so witty and could make you laugh until tears fell. He had so many friends, some who have gone on before him. He was married to the love of his life, Novella for 56 years, before she passed away in 2020. He is survived by his four children, Diane (Tim) Danny (Marcia) Deanna (Chad), Dennis (Vickie) he is also survived by his grandchildren Joshua, Benjamin (Sabrina), Tyler (Tori), Trenton (Jordan), Jacob and Madison. His great grandchildren Sofia, Curtis, and Clyde. He is also survived by his brother Preston Camp and his sister Betty Moore. His oldest sister Augusta Niswander passed away in August. He loved them all so very much. He would give you the shirt off his back. He could tell you anything about a car, the original color, engine, what the interior was like when it rolled off the assembly line. He had a vast knowledge about cars, and he was only a Chevrolet man. He loved NASCAR and was Dale Earnhardt’s #1 fan. He was an outstanding artist and could whittle a stick into anything you could imagine. He spoke often about his 57 Chevy that was yellow and white. He had recently bought a little Chevy S10 that had been restored and he loved it. He loved the Lord with all his heart, he talked often about his salvation and how he couldn’t wait to be with Mama again. He loved his preacher Don Wilton of First Baptist Spartanburg and never missed a sermon, unless he was sick. He was a fighter like none we’ve ever known, he beat lung cancer, Covid, a heart attack and was fighting with everything he had in him against liver cancer. He was the toughest man, never backed down from a battle. He would tell each of us he loved us daily. He never left any of his children wondering how much he loved them. He will be greatly missed, and I feel like a paragraph does him no justice, he lived and loved so big, that we can’t fit it all in here. If you were his friend, you’re blessed to call him friend and we were tremendously blessed to call him Daddy. He was our Superman. We love you so very much Daddy, we are heartbroken, but we know we will see you again. Flowers are appreciated. Daddy was a lifelong blood donor, any blood donations at the American Red Cross would be a great way to honor him.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, November 18, 2021, at the Chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Dr. Tim Metcalf officiating.  Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
