Helmut Sebastian Duemig, 97, died Saturday March 16, 2019 at the Elizabeth House in Flat Rock.
Helmut leaves behind his wife of 50 years Maureen, his daughter Diana, son Peter and five grandchildren. Diana and her husband Tim live in Smyrna, GA with their children Sophia, William and Bennett. Peter and his wife Micah live in Ft. Mill SC with their children Logan and Anna.
Helmut was born in Aschaffenburg, Germany to Barbara and Wilhelm Duemig. He graduated with a Masters in Engineering from Munich and then went onto work internationally as a Structural Engineer in India, New York, Chile, and throughout Europe. While in India he met Maureen. They married in England and lived in Chile for 3 years before moving to New Jersey.
Helmut and Maureen retired and built their home in Hendersonville, NC as it reminded him of Germany with its beautiful mountains, winding roads and four seasons. He enjoyed wood working, home repair and scotch, not necessarily in that order. Helmut was known for his wit, wide range of knowledge and his German work ethic. Until age 97 he was still doing yard work and cooking.
A celebration of life will be held in the fellowship hall of Mt. Pisgah Lutheran Church Saturday March 23rd at 11:00 for friends of the Duemig family.
