Helen Mattie Brittain Lister, 84, of the Hendersonville community, went to her heavenly home on December 25, 2020 to be with her Lord and Savior after a brief period of declining health. Helen was born on June 24, 1936 in Henderson County, to the late William Theodore Brittain and Bonnie Eva Brittain.
In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her son, Daniel Scott Lister and her brother, Jack Brittain.
Helen is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Daniel Gordon Lister. She is also survived by one brother, Theodore Edwin Brittain. She is also survived by her daughters, Rebecca Lister McLeod and husband Mack, Hickory, NC; Anita Kay Lister, Ontario, California; Pamela Gray Lister, Hendersonville, NC; and son, Ted Lister and wife Shelia, Concord, NC. MawMaw leaves five grandchildren: Ian McLeod and fiancée Jess Luckett, Morgan McLeod and wife Alicen, TJ Lister and wife Quinn, Scottie Lister, and Emily Lister. Helen is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved deeply.
Helen graduated from Hendersonville High School. She went on to graduate from Lees- McRae College where she also played basketball. After graduating, she proceeded to Emory University where she received a BS in Medical Records Administration. Helen worked for Cleveland Regional Hospital as Medical Records Administrator until her retirement.
Helen was known for her quick wit and sense of humor, along with an unwavering love of life. She loved her Lord and Savior first and her family second. Her love of Big Dan and her family was evident to all who knew her. That love was apparent throughout her family because she instilled integrity, kindness, faith, and grace in them. She was a true matriarch.
Helen would not want you to mourn her passing because she is with her Lord and Savior and whole again. She would want you to celebrate her life. Helen’s celebration of life service will be at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Hendersonville, NC on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at 11am in the chapel.
The family asks that all persons who attend to please wear a mask to protect each other and practice social distancing.
