George C. Butler, Jr., 83, of Arden went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Elizabeth House. A native of Augusta, ME, George was the son of the late George C. and Dorothy Poulin Butler. He served in the Army for two years, and was in the Navy for twenty-four years, attaining the rank of Chief Petty Officer and working as a Corpsman. Following his military career, George worked as an LVN at the VA Medical centers in New Hampshire and Asheville for a total of 20 years before retirement. He was a member of Skyland Methodist Church and NARFE. George was a Hospice volunteer and “never met a stranger”.
Survivors include his wife, Faye Doell; a son, Raymond Butler and his wife Lee Anne of Illinois; a daughter, Lita Blanchard of Maine; stepchildren, Gretchen Bernier and her husband Raoul of Flat Rock, Jeff Doell and his wife Sue of Green Valley, AZ, Kim Miller and her husband David of Brevard; nine grandchildren, Shelly (Jack) Burger, Paul Butler, Matt Butler, Joshua Beers, Melody Blanchard, Ian Blanchard, Caitlin (Sam) Harris, Christopher Blanchard, Nate Blanchard ; seven great-grandchildren, Tannon Kjolhede, Katie Kjolhede, Alexis Burger, Kiya Butler, Kaden Butler, Hannah Butler, Morgan Butler; two great-great-grandchildren, David Kjolhede and Katalenah Lane; one step-granddaughter, Kelly Miller of Savannah, GA; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be at 1:00 pm Tuesday at Trinity View, 2533 Hendersonville Road, Arden, NC 29704. Rev. Wes Sharpe will officiate.
Military Honors will be at 2:00 pm Wednesday, December 6, 2017 in the Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Four Seasons Elizabeth House, 571 S. Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
