Gary Stephen Jones

November 2, 1946 - November 13, 2020

Mr. Gary S Jones, 74, born November 2, 1946, went to be with the LORD on November 13, 2020, after an extended illness. Gary resided in East Flat Rock in the home his father built and where he spent his childhood. He was a 1965 graduate of East Henderson High School and, shortly after graduation, served in the US Air Force.

Gary was a former member of the Blue Ridge Volunteer Fire Department and the Henderson County Rescue Squad. He was employed with Duke Energy for 35 years and retired as a Transmission Coordinator in Charlotte, NC. After his retirement, Gary worked part-time with the Henderson County Sheriff’s Department as an administrative assistant for 10 years.  Gary was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church East Flat Rock. He enjoyed RV camping and his two favorite hobbies were surf fishing and playing with his two Great Pyrenees dogs, Roxy and Dalton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alby and Willie Mae Jones of East Flat Rock. His surviving family members include his wife of 25 years, Patricia; son, Michael (Angela) Jones of Pinehurst, NC; daughter, Michelle Bishop of New York; brother David (Lynnette) Jones of East Flat Rock; granddaughter, Kathryn J. Oakley (Brandon) of Pinehurst; 5 grandsons: Michael Jones, Jr. of Pinehurst; Christian Bishop of Asheville; Jaden Moore of Florida; and Araja and Zen Kyyboa of New York; nephew, Kyle (Marisa) Jones of Texas and one niece, Allison (Blake) Rushing of Asheville.

Memorials may be made to The Children’s Home Society of NC in Greensboro or the His Kids Day Care at First Baptist Church East Flat Rock. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
