Gary Furman Bradley, Sr., 79, of Fletcher, North Carolina, went to sleep in Jesus on January 21, 2018.
He was born on July 28, 1938 to the late Carl Furman and Robbie Laughter Bradley, both of Asheville. He graduated from Biltmore High School and Asheville Buncombe Technical Community College.
In his youth, Gary enjoyed racing at the Asheville Motor Speedway and honed his mechanical skills working on race cars. He served in the Army for two years and worked most of that time at Walter Reed Medical Center repairing and improving life-saving equipment. His civilian career was as an aeronautical engineer specializing in military safety devices. Many of his patented inventions are currently in use today.
Friends in the community will remember Gary as a Mr. Fix-it. From building his house, a motorhome, two cars, and tree houses, to home renovations and repairs of all machinery big and small, Gary always had a project (or several) to keep him busy. All of his friends and family will miss his wisdom and skills. Gary also enjoyed camping in their motorhome, keeping up with Duke basketball, talking to his friends, and eating his wife’s good cooking.
He was a long-standing member of the Fletcher Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Gary Bradley, Sr. is survived by Ruth, his devoted wife of 55 years; his son Gary Jr. (wife Stella and grandchildren Allison and Zachary); and daughter Amy Jean Larrabee (husband Clark Larrabee and grandson David). He also has numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and also his three siblings: Ann Knupp, Ronald Bradley, and Shirley Snyder.
The family claims the promise of Christ’s soon return and that “God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. Revelation 21:4 KJV
A private graveside service will be held Wednesday, January 24, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
There will be a memorial service at the Fletcher Seventh Day Adventist Church on Saturday, January 27 at 3:30 P.M. The family would love to reminisce and share memories with you after the service downstairs in the church. Light refreshments will be served.
