Eugene G. Burrell, 89, of Hendersonville, NC passed away on February 18 at 9pm. A native of Ellijay, GA, he lived in Palm Harbor, FL prior to moving to Hendersonville in 2004. He is the son of the late Hill and Vera Burrell of Ellijay and was preceded in death by a brother Harry G. Burrell; a brother, Jimmy Burrell; and a sister, Jeanette Burrell Morgan. Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Mary Ann; his son Daniel and wife Gaye Burrell of Colorado Springs; 2 daughters, Melissa Whitmire and husband Mark Whitmire of Gulf Breeze, FL and Gloria Burrell of Asheville, NC; three grandsons Brad, Bryan, and Brett DeBlois.
He was a retired Chief Master Sergeant (E-9) in the USAF, serving in both the Korean and Vietnam eras. Following retirement he was employed with the U.S. Postal Service in Colorado Springs.
He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, DAV, and the AF Sergeants Association. He loved to travel and was blessed to have been able to travel throughout the country. He especially enjoyed traveling in caravans which included Alaska, The Maritimes, most of Canada, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand with his wife and fellow military retirees.
He was of the Presbyterian (PCA) faith and was an active member of Village Seven Presbyterian Church in Colorado Springs, later in Palm Harbor, FL and most recently of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Hendersonville.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, February 23 in the chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 538 Tracy Grove Road, Hendersonville, with Pastor Steve Mirich, Jr. officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the chapel.

Danny and Melissa... it was my pleasure to meet both of you. Also, to see Mary Ann and give her a hug. My thoughts and prayers to you both, and I will hold your dad in my thoughts. He was a blessing, and I'm blessed to know that my support groups meant so much to him.
