Donald Norris Elliott, 89, of Hendersonville, NC, died Friday, May 15, 2009 at the Elizabeth House.
Born in West Mansfield, Ohio, he was a son of the late Clayton H. and Marguerite N. Elliott. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Janet Schonwald.
He was a Lieutenant in the US Army during WWII and served in the European Theatre. He was a Professor of Psychology at Wayne State University, Detroit, where he worked his entire career, except for a year, as a Fulbright Scholar at Tokyo University. He received his doctorate at Purdue University in 1949. He conducted scientific research in audiology and mentored many graduate students. He retired to NC from Michigan and had lived in Brevard, NC for many years.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Katherine Johnstone Elliott; a son, William Clayton Elliott and his wife Dora of Syracuse, NY; two daughters, Judith Anne Elliott and her long-time partner Arnold Alpert of Canterbury, NH and Janet Campbell and her husband Jack of Monroe, Ohio; two brothers, Robert Elliott and his wife Jackie of Cornelius, NC and John Elliott and his wife Joyce of Franklin, IN; a granddaughter, Margaret Berry; two grandsons, Donald Elliott and his wife Crystal and James Elliott and his fiancee Kim and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to all those who lovingly cared for Donald during the length of his illness.
