Don Graves Shane

November 11, 1933 - November 1, 2019

Don Shane, 85 of Hendersonville died on Friday, November 1, 2019 at the Elizabeth House.  He was born in Oklahoma, a son of the late George and Mary Tobey Shane.  Mr. Shane served in the US Marines where he was stationed in Okinawa.  He graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University, Central State University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  He was a Professor of Special Education at the University of Central Oklahoma.

He had been a resident of Hendersonville for the past 27 years and was an active volunteer with Hospice, IAM and Pardee Hospital and was a member of Hendersonville Presbyterian Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers Ray Shane and Dan Shane.

Surviving is his wife of 63 years Janis Shane; and a sister Ruthanne Riek of Midland, Texas.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Rev. Bob Hicks officiating.  A memorial service will be planned for a later date.
