Harry Ballard

April 15, 1943 - November 22, 2015

Harry Ballard, 72, of Edneyville, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 22, 2015. A native and lifelong resident of Henderson County, he was a son of the late Clyde and Margaret Hooper Ballard. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Dale Ballard.

Harry was a graduate of Edneyville High School in 1961. He earned a BS in teacher education from NC State University. Harry was an apple farmer for 40 years, and had also taught science at West Henderson High School. He was a member of Living Water Baptist Church.

Harry will be remembered for his deep love for his one and only daughter, Samantha “Sam” Sanders. She was the light of his life. He was a very good mechanic and could fix almost anything. He loved older country music and could often be heard singing along. He had a very big heart and cared deeply for others, especially his son-in-law, Sean. He had a passion for growing apples, and in his younger years he was an avid tennis player.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 49 years, Sue; his daughter, Sam Sanders and her husband Sean; sister, JoAnn Surrett; numerous nieces and nephews, and his cats Joe and Leo.

A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Friday, November 27, 2015 in the Chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Pastor Tony Birkhead will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2pm prior to the service in the chapel.
