Bettyann Henry, 79, of Hendersonville passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at Elizabeth House after a period of declining health. She was born March 30, 1932 in Hackensack, New Jersey, a daughter of the late Sophie Strba and John Strba.

Bettyann lived in New Jersey most of her life. While there, she belonged to the Hopatcong chapter of Deborah and was a life-long member of Deborah Heart & Lung Hospital of Fort Dix, NJ. She was Vice President of the Shore Hills Ladies Auxiliary and occasionally performed in the Shore Hills Players of Landing, NJ. Bettyann also lived in Coalton, Illinois where she owned and operated her own preschool for 15 years.

She moved to Hendersonville in 1990, where she volunteered at the Johnson Farm and the Carl Sandburg Home. Many good friends were made when she and her husband joined the local Welcome Wagon group.

Bettyann will be remembered as a devoted Christian servant, excellent homemaker, hard worker and an avid gardener who especially enjoyed the hundreds of daffodils she planted in her yard. She also enjoyed animals and cared for goats, ducks, cats and a pony over the course of her time in Illinois.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Robert Henry; a son Robert of San Ramon, CA; a daughter Linda of Albuquerque, NM; three grandchildren: Brian, David and Lauren Henry; a brother, George OíKrepkie of Trumbull, CT; and sisters, Ann Zimmerman of Nokomis, IL, Lori Farnon of West Milford, NJ, and Virginia Yacyniak of Little Falls, NJ.

A memorial service will be at 3:00 pm Sunday at Horse Shoe First Baptist Church. Rev. Tollie Cunningham will officiate. A reception will follow the service in the fellowship hall. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm Saturday at Forest Lawn Funeral Home. A private graveside committal service is planned at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made, in Bettyannís memory, to Horse Shoe First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 126, Horse Shoe NC 28742; or, Four Seasons Compassion for Life, 581 South Allen Rd., Flat Rock NC 28731.
