Bettie Watford

September 1, 1913 - August 10, 2010

Bettie Friedell Watford, 96, of Hendersonville, passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at Elizabeth House. A native of Upper Montclair, NJ, she lived in Austin, TX and San Antonio, TX before moving to Henderson County in 2008. She was the daughter of the late Deupree Julien Friedell and Maude Ireland Brandt Friedell, and the wife of the late Wilbur Horsley Watford, who died in 1995. A life-long Episcopalian, she was a member of St. John in the Wilderness Episcopal Church. She was preceded in death by two sons, James Dale Watford and William Howard Watford.

Survivors include a daughter, Bettie Watford Orr and her husband, Charles Lee; a sister, Mary Oldham Wall of Ft. Forth, TX; five grandchildren, Thomas Deupree Watford, Michael Eric Watford, Michelle Watford Tyler, Teressa Kay Barner, Jakey Kay Elliott; six great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be at 2:00 pm Sunday, August 22, 2010, at St. John in the Wilderness Episcopal Church. The Revs. H. Alexander Viola and Joyce Beschta will officiate. Inurnment will follow the service in the church columbarium. A reception will follow the service in the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Four Seasons Compassion for Life, 571 S. Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
