Barbara Corn McCraw

August 31, 1934 - January 8, 2019

Barbara Corn McCraw, 84, of Hendersonville went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at the Elizabeth House following a period of declining health. A native and lifelong resident of Henderson County, she was a daughter of the late James and Evelyn Corn. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Millie.

Barbara earned her degree in education from Wake Forest University and went on to operate a nursery out of her home for over 20 years. She was the nursery director for 27 years at Mud Creek Baptist Church, where she has been a faithful member for over 50 years. Barbara volunteered with Friends of Carl Sandburg for many years, where she was a fantastic orator of the Rootabaga Stories. She enjoyed reading, her church and her family. Barbara was a steward of compassion and giving. She would offer up the shirt on her back if she felt someone needed it. She loved her grandchildren deeply and cherished the time she spent with them.

She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Cliff; daughter, Laura Tice (Tony); son, Ken McCraw (Erica); grandchildren, Sam (Amber), Cliff (Amber) and Nick (Shannon); and great-grandchildren, Kyron, Kalee, Beau and Lyla.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11am Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Mud Creek Baptist Church with Dr. Greg Mathis officiating. The family will receive friends for 1 hour prior to the service from 10-11am at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be offered to Four Seasons Compassion for Life, 571 S. Allen Rd. Flat Rock, NC 28731.
