Albert Clinton ìBillî Ballard, 85, of Zirconia passed away Sunday, October 7, 2012 at Elizabeth House. A native and lifelong resident of Henderson County, he was a son of the late Reuben Thompson and Maybelle Thompson Ballard. He was also preceded in death by six brothers, Robert ìHappyî, John, Fralow, Wilkie, Clyde, and Edward Ballard; three sisters, Charlotte B. Moore, Ophelia B. Quinn, and Carolyn B. Cooley.
He worked with J. P Stevens, retiring in 1988, and also worked as a caretaker and farmer. He was a Navy veteran of WWII, serving aboard the USS Magoffin from 1944 through 1946. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his loving wife of over sixty years, Kathleen Middleton Ballard; two daughters, Charlotte Ann B. Ricketts, Audrey B. Saltz; four grandchildren, Christopher ìDavidî Jones and his wife Susan, Andrew Clinton Jones and his wife Summer, Kirsten Elizabeth Saltz, Ashley Lauren Saltz; two great grandchildren, Zoe Elizabeth Jones, Autumn Leigh Jones; three sisters, Phalbia Ireson, Willievie Goins, Laura Austin; a brother, Roy Ballard; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be at 3:00 pm Wednesday in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Revs. Patrick Ballard and John Saunders will officiate. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Hubert M. Smith Post #77, Hedrick-Rhodes VFW Post # 5206, and DAV Chapter 14. Memorials may be made to Four Seasons Compassion for Life, 571 S. Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
