John Francis “Jack” Wilson, 89, died Monday, August 7, 2017 at the Elizabeth House.
He was born in 1927, the son of Foster and Ann Wilson and grew up on a farm in Western IA. Following high school, he served in the Army during WWII. He was a graduate of Iowa State University with a Master’s Degree in Engineering.
In 1949, he married Jeannette Andersen and over the years, his work took them to several locations including CA, WI, PA, Sweden and SC. They and their two sons and daughter enjoyed skiing, rock climbing, and back packing. In 1993, Jeannette died after a long illness and he retired from Westinghouse Electric Corp. in Columbia, SC and moved to Hendersonville in 1997. He married Anna Curry in 2000 and they enjoyed retirement living together. Jack was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars and served many years with the Henderson County Honor Guard.
He is survived by his wife, Ann; daughter, Debra Wilson of Durham, NC, two sons, Thomas Wilson of Flamingo, Costa Rica and Douglas Wilson of Blairsville, PA and their wives; two step-daughters, Janet Martin of Shawneetown, IL and Jonnie Beth Ping of Hendersonville, NC; two granddaughters, Laura Dzwigalski of Senoia, GA and Virginia Whitestone of Fairfax, VA; and a great-grandson, Cooper Whitestone.
