Harry Glenn “Buddy” Dotson passed away early Friday morning, July 13, 2018, surrounded by his children and brother at the Elizabeth House in Hendersonville, North Carolina. He is survived by his children; Kelly and husband David, Tracy and husband Gene, and Glenn and wife Darlene, his grandchildren; Kaela, Catherine, Jareth, and Virginia. He is also survived by the love of his life Bernadette and her children Nicole and Chuck. His older brother Larry, a devoted caretaker and friend, along with his children, Holly and Jackson, also survive him. Buddy was preceded in death by his father and mother, Harley and Pauline.
Buddy was known, above all else, to be kind, loving, and extremely talented man. He was a Vocational Teacher and worked 30 years for the North Carolina School System. He taught Industrial Arts with a focus in auto mechanics, drafting, graphic arts, welding, and CAD/CAM at Hendersonville High School. The love and devotion of his students endured after he retired from teaching and he was continually recognized and thanked wherever he went.
There was absolutely nothing he could not fix or build. Buddy restored automobiles, built beautiful furniture and was a dynamite cook. He built the family home in the early 70’s with love in every nail and board he placed. It was one of his most proud accomplishments.
In his later years, Buddy enjoyed traveling. Every autumn he would go to Pisgah Inn to enjoy the changing leaves on the Blue Ridge Parkway. He enjoyed traveling to Alaska, the Caribbean Islands, Canada, and the Grand Canyon. He was always up for an adventure.
Buddy was a quick-witted man and was always ready with a one liner to brighten the mood. He had a story for everything and everywhere he went, people would remember his fantastic sense of humor. His absence will be felt, not only by his family but, by the greater community. He was one in a million and will be missed.
The family gives special thanks to The Laurels of Hendersonville and the Elizabeth House. Their kindness and care made the transition easier. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Buddy’s name to the Elizabeth House or The Hendersonville High School Alumni Association. A reception for family and friends is set for Tuesday, August 21 from 6 – 8pm at The Ceders, 227 7th Ave W. Hendersonville, NC. In honor of Buddy, please wear your favorite plaid, flannel, or Hawaiian shirt.
