Forest Lawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum

Forest Lawn Memorial Park, formerly known as Grandview Memorial Gardens, was established in 1970 by a group of five local businessmen, two of whom remained in the business until 1979 when control of the company was acquired by Grandview Associates. In 1983 the name changed to Forest Lawn Memorial Park. During 1984 the present owner, R. Shuford Edmisten, who had worked for Grandview Associates as General Manager for 2 years, purchased the cemetery. Since its purchase by CDC, Corp., the cemetery added a Veterans Garden (with features, flags, etc.) and in late 1985 built a 420 crypt single wing mausoleum.

In 1993 Forest Lawn Memorial Park erected Phase II of the mausoleum and in 1994 Phase III. Forest Lawn added a 158' side walkway and a 27' x 27' pad for the large gazebo that was completed in the spring of 1994. Forest Lawn Memorial Park was purchased by ECI in Dec. 1996. After this acquisition, Forest Lawn enclosed the mausoleum which has 888 crypts and 504 niches. A new office building was also completed.

Forest Lawn Memorial Park, located at 538 Tracy Grove Road, Hendersonville, NC, is a 40 acre perpetual care cemetery. Twenty acres have been developed into ten (10) bronze memorial and upright monument gardens, most of which include features and centerpieces. Twenty (20) additional acres are available for expansion.

Forest Lawn is beautiful and well-kept with gently rolling hills, with roads, walkways and landscaping. The entrance is enhanced by impressive wrought iron gates with 136 Spanish finials, of which 36 finials are in gold leaf. The garden areas feature two hand-carved granite Bibles, resting on brick, two hand-carved life-size angels and an eight-foot statue of the Good Shepherd. These statues were made by Barnard Zukermmer of Italy and imported here to be a prominent part of this memorial park.
